Emergency Demonstration in Solidarity with Gaza Freedom Flotilla in Kobe and Osaka (Tuesday, June 1st, 2010)

On 1st June, we, Palestine Forum, organised the urgent action in order to make a protest in front of the Honorary Consulate of Israel in Kobe, JR Motomachi Station and JR Osaka Station against massacre of the Gaza Free Flotilla activists and piracy on the aid convoy of 6 ships committed by Israeli troops on 31 st May.

In front of the Honorary Consulate of Israel in Kobe, approximately 30 citizens from Kobe, Osaka and Kyoto concerning on this issue, participated in this urgent action.

Though we visited the office of the Honorary Consulate to file a protest appeal,it was closed. Therefore, we pasted our appeal onto the office front door. Afterwards, we had protest for 30 minutes on the pavement in front of the building where the consulate was located. The participants strongly condemned Israel's criminal act, and showed solidarity to people in Gaza.

We read out the solidarity message from Mr. Tetsuo INAMI, a member of the House of Representatives from the Democratic Party of Japan for our action.

We also gathered in front of JR Motomachi Station and JR Osaka Station in order to appeal to the public, distibuting our handout flyer. Approximately 50 citizens joined this appeal action.

Appeal to the Government of Israel on the Israel's Criminal Act in the Sea near Gaza

To Mr. Benjamin Netanyafu, the Prime Minister of the State of Israel,
Mr. Nisshim Ben Shitrit, the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Japan,
Mr. Mr. Shiro Mitsumune, the Honorary Consul of the State of Israel to Japan,

Representations on the Israel's Criminal Act in the Sea near Gaza, Palestine

Before dawn on Monday 31st May, as Israeli Special Forces stormed the Gaza Freedom Flotilla which was sailing towards Gaza in international waters, approximately 10 activists got killed and over 60 people got injured. We, Japanese citizens who long for just peace in Palestine, show deep anger and grief over this incident.

Though nearly 1 year and half passed since Israeli attacks on Gaza which killed over 1400 people, even humanitarian aid through the UN has been prevented from entering to Gaza because of the blockade imposed by the Israeli government.

In spite of the fact that lifting the blockade has been repeatedly urged by the international society, such as the UN or EU and so on, the Israeli government has denied its request. In this situation, approximately 750 peace activists and humanitarian aid workers from all over the world boarded the Gaza Freedom Flotilla,carrying 10000 tonnes of aids including wheelchairs and building materials in order to deliver them to Gazans suffering from humanitarian crisis.

Attacks against the unarmed civil volunteers by Israeli troops are an unprecedented criminal act. Against such a crime, we demand the Israeli government to take the following measures as soon as possible, based on international law;

  1. to investigate the fact of the massacre of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla activists and humanitarian aids workers, to apologise and compensate the victims and(or) their families, and to punish those responsible for the attack.
  2. in terms of the attacks on Gaza committed by Israeli troops from the end of December 2008 to January 2009, to investigate the fact, to apologise and compensate the victims and(or) their families, and to punish those responsible for the attack.
  3. to instantly lift the blockade of Gaza so that Gazans can enjoy freedom of movement for people and goods into and out of the Gaza.
